500 tonnes
Premium wheat committed by farmers in the New South Wales Riverina.
Australian farmers responding to global hunger
Grain of Hope connects the generosity of Australian farmers with communities facing hunger and humanitarian crisis around the world.
Farmers give grain. Supporters help move it. Together, we turn what Australia grows into food for people who urgently need it.
Beginning with 500 tonnes of donated Riverina wheat for people affected by the crisis in Sudan.

A quiet beginning
A conversation between two friends.
A farmer setting aside part of a harvest.
A neighbour offering a truck.
A supporter paying for another kilometre of the journey.
Grain of Hope brings these individual acts together, creating a practical pathway from Australian farms to communities experiencing severe hunger.
We may not be able to solve every crisis. But together, we can do something real.

A growing movement
Farmers, donors, businesses and humanitarian partners acting together.
The wheat is waiting
Australian farmers have already stepped forward to donate wheat. But getting grain from a country silo to families facing hunger requires collection, inspection, transport, containers, shipping, milling and safe distribution.
That is where the wider community comes in.

Our story
Ken Dachi recognised the crop growing on Rob Houghton’s farm because mung beans were familiar from his childhood in Kenya.
That small connection became a friendship.
Over regular meals at Rob’s farmhouse in Leeton, New South Wales, the two friends talked about farming, history, leadership and the state of the world.
One conversation kept returning: how could so much food be grown in one place while people elsewhere went hungry?
Rob looked at the grain stored outside his kitchen window and proposed a simple response.
Let’s send some.

The vision
Grain of Hope is beginning with one group of Riverina farmers and one shipment of wheat.
The larger vision is to make grain donation a simple and enduring part of Australian agriculture.
We imagine a future in which farmers across the country can set aside part of a harvest for communities facing crisis, supported by transporters, grain handlers, ports, businesses, donors and trusted humanitarian partners.
One farm cannot end global hunger. But many people contributing what they already have can carry hope much further than any of us could alone.
The wheat is waiting. Help carry it from Australian silos toward people facing hunger.
